Vitamin and mineral deficiencies are often reported in people living with obesity. Gastric sleeve and gastric bypass procedures reduce portion size and can affect absorption of vitamins and minerals, further increasing the risk of deficiency therefore supplements pre and post surgery are necessary to help prevent and treat deficiencies.
There are 3 stages to eating after bariatric surgery, the first stage involves a puree texture diet for the first 4 weeks after surgery. After 4 weeks, you can move into stage 2 which involves a soft texture diet which provides a bridge between pureed food and solid food. 8 weeks after your surgery you move into your final stage where you should be able to return to all types of food but aiming for healthier choices, in smaller portions than before surgery.
