Gallbladder removal is an effective treatment for gallstones that can provide relief and improve your quality of life.

What is the Gallbladder?

The gallbladder is the organ that stores a fluid produced by the liver called bile. When we eat, the body releases bile into the small intestine as it helps to break down foods (specifically fatty foods).

Gallstones can form when the bile stored in the gallbladder hardens into a stone-like substance. Gallstones range in size from a grain of sand to a golf ball. Symptoms are not always present, so anyone can have gallstones without knowing it. However, gallstones can also cause severe pain and other symptoms that can impact your daily life.

How does Gallbladder removal work?

When you have experienced attacks of pain caused by gallstones, one of the most appropriate and effective treatment is to have an operation to remove the gallbladder. Known as a laparoscopic cholecystectomy it is a minimally invasive procedure whereby a surgeon removes the gallbladder.

This procedure is normally performed under general anaesthetic and takes about an hour to complete. The procedure involves a few small incisions, and most people go home the same day.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy, a minimally invasive procedure for gallbladder removal, offers several notable benefits:

Minimal Scarring

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy involves small incisions, resulting in significantly less scarring compared to traditional open surgery.

Less Pain

Patients often experience less postoperative pain and discomfort due to the smaller incisions and reduced tissue trauma.

Quick return to activities

Due to a faster recovery time, patients can usually resume their daily activities and work sooner compared to open surgery.

What are the benefits of private Gallbladder removal?

New data from NHS England shows that treatment waiting lists are at a record high. With more than a third of patients waiting more than the target time of 18 weeks.

Having a number of locations across the UK means we can provide faster treatment times, compared to the long waiting lists within the NHS. With Streamline, you could be on the road to recovery within 4-6 weeks.
