Niamh's Story

This surgery is the best thing I’ve ever done and the best money I've ever spent. The only regret I have is that I didn’t do it sooner. It has changed my life completely. I am so grateful to everyone at streamline. I honestly owe my happiness and life to these people.

Why did you have surgery?

It got past the stage of me wanting to lose weight for my appearance. I decided I wanted surgery when my weight was starting to affect my health. I wasn’t able to walk very far, I wasn’t able to walk my dogs, I wasn’t able to stand for longer than 2 minutes and I had tried everything to lose weight, every diet, every exercise and nothing was working for me.

I think the biggest thing was that I had started my dream job as a theatre assistant, which would then lead to me training to be a scrub nurse. When I got home from being on my feet all day I wasn’t able to do anything else other than sit on the sofa and rest until I needed to go to work the next day. It was killing me being on my feet all day.

I couldn’t let my weight ruin this opportunity I had been given.

Being overweight was ruining my life.

How has life been since surgery?

Well… where do I even start. My life has completely changed. I can do everything I’ve wanted to do. It’s changed me mentally. I can walk properly, I can stand for long periods of time, I can run…

I can finally be happy again.

I have achieved so much since losing weight. In the last couple of weeks I set myself a challenge to climb mount snowdon… and I did it with ease. I would never have done this when I was bigger. My entire mindset has changed. If someone had mentioned hiking when I was big I would have laughed in their face. Now, it’s all I want to do.

Before I had my surgery I used to be anxious about going to the shop, or going for days out with the family. I don’t have that anxiety anymore and I thoroughly enjoy going out and seeing my friends and family.

Why did you choose Streamline?

I had researched the operation for months. I decided to go with streamline because of what they offered you. I loved the fact that I was able to get two years of aftercare included in the price.

My experience started with Rachel. She made me feel comfortable instantly and she was there every step of the way. She made this journey a wonderful experience.

Mr Ben Knight got recommended to me by one of the surgeons I work with and I couldn’t be happier with how he’s changed my life. He is such a down to earth, “normal” person who made me feel comfortable throughout the entire process. I owe my happiness to this man.

How was your experience with Streamline?

From my first phone call with Rachel up until now, it’s been amazing. They have been so helpful and have made me feel so comfortable every step of the way. I would highly recommend streamline to anyone wanting weight loss surgery. My mum is now looking into having surgery with streamline because she’s watched my life change for the better.

How do you see life in the future?

I see lots of fun and adventures in my future. I was worried about having a baby when I was big because doctors had told me I would struggle getting pregnant because of my weight. I now don’t worry about that and I’m excited to have a healthy pregnancy in the future.

I am also getting married next year and I am so excited that I get to feel amazing in a wedding dress. Wedding dress shopping was such an amazing experience and I feel it would have been a very different experience if I was bigger.
