About Periyathambi Jambulingam

Periyathambi Jambulingam has been working as a Consultant General Surgeon with a special interest in Upper GI/ bariatric surgery at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Trust since July 2007. As Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer and Consultant Surgeon at Hammersmith hospital, Imperial College, London, he performs oesophagogastric cancer surgery.

Mr Periyathambi Jambulingam completed his higher surgical training in the West Midlands, at University Hospitals in North Staffordshire, Coventry and Birmingham. He spent a year in the Liver Transplantation Unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, where he passed the intercollegiate specialty examination in 2004 and obtained his CCST.  He completed a year’s Post CCST fellowship in Oesophago-gastric and advanced laparoscopic surgery at UHB. He is also trained in laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery, diaphragmatic hernia, inguinal and incisional hernia repair.

As the clinical lead, he delivers bariatric surgical services at the Obesity Centre for research at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital and enters his data on the NBSR.  He attended bariatric training courses in Hull, Taunton, Bruges in Belgium, UPMC, Pittsburgh and Rotterdam. He is an experienced bariatric surgeon and performs insertion of intragastric balloons, Elipse, laparoscopic gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass and revisional bariatric surgery. He performs more than 100 procedures a year. He has widely published in his field, a national trainer for bariatric surgery and Endoscopy, RCS Examiner & Instructor for Ccrisp Course and Faculty of Surgical Trainers.
