About James Ramus

Mr James Ramus is a specialist consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric surgeon.

He works in Reading at the Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS trust (RBH) and is one of the lead surgeons in the regional Bariatric unit based there.

He also works in the independent and private hospitals in Reading including the Berkshire Independent Hospital where he performs weight loss surgery for Streamline Surgical.

James has been a consultant surgeon since 2012 and helped develop the Reading Bariatric unit into a Level 1, tertiary referral centre for weight loss and metabolic surgery.

In 2017 the RBH weight loss service became the first centre in the UK to regularly perform Robotic weight loss surgery using the Intuitive ‘Da Vinci’ Robotic surgery platform; and have now performed over 200 Robotic Bariatric procedures.

James currently performs weight loss procedures both laparoscopically and Robotically including sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, gastric band surgery and revisional weight loss surgery.

He also performs other upper GI and general surgical procedures including antireflux surgery, gall bladder surgery and hernia repair.

He lives in Buckinghamshire with his wife and 2 children and is also part time crowd doctor for the mighty Wycombe Wanderers FC – when commitments allow!
