About Max Major

Dr Max Major qualified as a Clinical Psychologist from the University of Otago, New Zealand before moving to London in 2018.

Max brings over 10 years of clinical experience, including Bariatric surgery, weight management, adult and older adult rehabilitation, brain and spinal cord injury, and digital mental health interventions. During his time in Bariatric surgery and weight management services, Max played pivotal roles in developing new and expanding existing psychological services and has supported hundreds of people living with obesity to achieve their goals and live the life they want. Adding to this clinical experience, Max has a deep understanding of health behaviours, completing his PhD on the neural correlates of decision-making – with a particular focus on impulsive decision at the cost of long-term gain.

Max’s unique approach integrates Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Focused ACT, CBT, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and a holistic perspective, ensuring tailored and compassionate care. He advocates for meeting individuals where they are, recognising the intrinsic link between physical and mental health, and valuing each person beyond their weight or appearance. Inspired by Dr. Gabor Maté’s ethos, “Ask not what the pain, but why the pain?”, Max champions the belief that our systems, as much as our thoughts and experiences, shape our behaviours and emotions. There is no right or wrong, just whether that choice or action helps you live the life you want to build and be the person you want to be.

He is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
